Bruce's Tips

Bruce's set up.

Acoustically and for recording I use Jim Williams handcrafted guitars. These throw out a big sound with crisp tops which gives the tonal range great separation. Ideal for fingerpicking.

On Stage I currently use a Maton (performer) with the AP 5 pick up. I tried a lot of these and the balance and evenness between the strings was very consistent and I’d recommend setting the EQ with added bass + reduced treble. Most sound guys tend to have too much treble so politely ask for what you want.

All under saddle, piezo pick ups whilst efficient and practical have an annoying harsh quacking like sound especially when played firmly. A great device I’ve found to minimize this is a foot pedal called a Fishman Aura. You’ll get more info from your dealer or online but it does actually do what it says it does.
